Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, a member of the Thai Royal family, has ordered urgent construction of bomb shelters in the Nam Yuen district of Ubon Ratchathani, a city close of the Thai-Cambodian border, addressing riding safety concerns for border communities. Villagers previously had to take refuge in drainage pipes and under bridges during emergencies, highlighting the need for proper protection.
Following a visit on the 8th of August by Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, advisor to the Chaipattana Foundation, who delivered royal‑granted supplies to Village Defence Volunteers, Princess Sirindhorn instructed immediate construction of shelters. Work began just two days later, involving local volunteers and community leaders.
Each shelter is build using six precast concrete box culverts, 1.8m x 1.8m x 1m, joined together, providing space for 50-60 people. These modular structures combine rapid deployment with resilient protection offering a significant safety upgrade for the communities.

The Thai initiative highlights global demand for secure civilian shelters. At The Panic Room Company, we have previously, and currently offer, modular design shelters in which our company, or individuals with detailed instructions, can rapidly assemble units. This is particularly useful in remote areas. The structures provide both emergency protection and strategic security options. Princess Sirindhorn’s swift action demonstrates the importance of timely, resilient shelter solutions, especially in volatile environments. Additionally, it demonstrates the importance of leaders acknowledging threats to their citizens, especially in border locations, and the spearheading of the development and implementation of rapid security measures.
