The Doomsday Clock is now 89 seconds to midnight, the closest the world has ever been to global disaster. The Science and Security Board sends a stark signal: a single second closer to midnight should be taken seriously as an indication of extreme danger and every second closer to midnight is a delay in reversing the increasing probability of global disaster.

The Doomsday Clock is a design that warns the public about how close we are to destroying our world and a metaphor to remind us of the threats we must address if we are to survive on the planet. The clock has been reset 26 times since its debut in 1947, most recently in 2025 when the clock moved from 90 seconds to midnight to 89 seconds to midnight. The Doomsday Clock was created with the danger of nuclear weapons, specifically from the arms race between the US and Soviet Union at the time. After the Cold War, the clock was set the farthest from midnight at 17 minutes to midnight.
The recent setting of the clock is due to nuclear threats as well as the potential misuses of advances in biology and artificial intelligence. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (BAS), which sets the clock, warns that the war in Ukraine “could become nuclear at any moment” along with conflict in the Middle East which could spiral out of control into a wider war.
The BAS also notes that the US, China, and Russia have the power to destroy civilisation but also the responsibility to pull the world back from the brink.
At The Panic Room Company, we frequently receive enquiries from clients concerned about the current global situation, including the threat of nuclear war. Our nuclear shelters provide peace of mind, especially to those situated in or near countries threatened by nuclear war.
